Pick the identifier that fits, or start with the gemstone identifier.

2. Add photos of one specimen

Up to five sharp photos in diffuse neutral light: top, side, underside and a close-up.

3. Add what you know

Measurements you took, what a seller said and what a report states are kept separate.

4. Review the evidence

You see visible observations, up to three plausible candidates, evidence against each, photo limitations and what remains unknown.

5. Verify when it matters

Origin, treatment, grade and value need appropriate testing. Each result tells you which questions to bring to a gemmologist or laboratory.
